You know, and oftentimes I'll see these uh reports come into my practice when I'm treating patients, or most of the time it'll be uh of psychiatry in our department reach out to me wondering about the cell evaluation.
Uh, you know, a rushed evaluation may look like, you know, a a simple symptom checklist.
So someone completing uh just a rating scale of ADHD, but not a norm referenced rating scale, just uh, you know, checking the symptoms.
symptoms and saying, oh, they meet eight out of the nine in attention symptoms, so they meet criteria for ADHD.
And while that can be useful screening information, essentially what we're missing is the context of those symptoms.
So it makes it difficult to know for sure what's going on.
Other rushed assessments that I'll see will be an assessment that just uses like a continuous performance test.
Um so a continuous performance test is a test where you
you know, look at the screen and you're supposed to pay attention to something going on and click a button when you see a certain thing.
Um and well, those sometimes can be useful uh in practice.
Uh most of the time um they're not going to give you uh that much additional information and they're not going to be useful as a standalone measure of ADHD in particular.
Yeah, that's a great question.
Um, and I think that when you do look at ADHD assessments across the board, um, they do vary in quality.
Um, and they do vary in terms of what's done and what's not done and the degree to which
the context of the whole person is taken into account when we're looking at those diagnoses.
Um, and so I think that m may be part of why there's so much confusion.
I do think there's a good bit of misinformation uh available to the public as well, um, in terms of what ADHD is and what ADHD isn't.
And I think
Um, some of that misinformation can come from very credible looking sources.
Um, and I think that can be confusing to people who don't have a PhD uh in this in this content, right?
