Um, I love them family preservation on that end.
Um, so that's my very favorite.
And I think in most cases of private infant adoption, that would actually mitigate even the need for it.

Other alternatives that are like maybe second best, I like guardianship, kinship, adoption.
Not all those are perfect.
I know some adoptees who had their own issues, their own grief.
But when there is some family member involved, it's better than being adopted as strangers.
And then guardianship's nice because it doesn't erase the adoptee's identity.
It doesn't sever an adoptee legally from their right to know and to participate in their lineage.
So those are like my top three, I'd say.
But I think that I'm the type of person who can envision a world where we make such major reform that maybe, you know, there's even something else we can reach for that would be a better solution.

Yeah.
It's still the last time I looked at the Adopt Your Rights Law Center map, which I love the work of Gregory Luce and how he just outlines it so clearly what our rights are in each state.
It's still a minority of states where there's open access to OVC's original birth certificate.
I was lucky enough to be from a state where I was able to get mine.
It has a giant red void stamp on it, which felt great.
But in some states, like it's barred for 99 years.
So, OK, I got to die for my birth certificate to be released to me.
