In other states, you have to have a court order.
So like
needless barriers, right?
To our own information.
And I hear a lot of chatter about whether or not adoptees should have access to the information of the parents involved.
But like, what about just access to my own info?
What about my birth records?
I don't get my birth records because my hospital record starts like age two.
And so as a physician, I really wanted to see the entirety of my records, right?
And that was actually a big reason I took DNA tests back when I did.
I was in medical school learning about inheritable diseases and I didn't have access to figuring out whether I had a risk.
Um, but when I went to go request my records from the hospital I was born in, they started age two and I went to the ER for, I think I had got a cut on my head or something.
Um, so because my birth records are under the name baby girl, which is what's on my OBC, they're not considered mine by the hospital.
So just interesting, just interesting intricacies of not having the right to your own information that the people don't think about.
And so thankfully I haven't had, um, that degree of medical emergency where that information would have saved my life, but
Other adoptees have been in that situation where it could have been lifesaving if they'd had access.
It would.
It would help to have at least a baseline.
And when I look through my own documents, there was technically a medical history section.
