But also, if you woke up, it would take longer for people to find back into sleep.
The number one winner in this study were the earplugs because they were really working.
Obviously, they had no negative effect on REM sleep, and they were actually recovering over 70% of the lost deep sleep due to the environmental noise.
Not really.
I mean, not that I can think of.
I mean, some people don't tolerate them because all of a sudden you hear your heart beating or your stomach, you know, gurgling.
But for most of the people, when we asked those questions, they felt they were comfortable.
Also, subjectively, they slept much better wearing those earplugs.
So right now, for those situations, I would say that is really a safe alternative to
to those broadband sounds like white noise and pink noise because they don't come with a negative effect on REM sleep.
And REM sleep is, again, really important for different things, and especially in young children, right?
The newborns actually spend 50% of their time in REM sleep.
You and I, we only spend 20% of our time.
So that suggests that, you know, for the newborn brain, this is really a very important sleep stage
to have that during those early neurodevelopmental stages.
And, you know, is it really a good idea to put a white noise machine next to the crib?
You know, I don't know.
We actually haven't looked into that.
We also haven't looked at the long-term effects, right?
This was a short-term study.
