You're kind of speaking against the the the norm, the hierarchy
You don't want to like speak up to your boss or speak up to people who are older than you, for example, um, more senior than you, for example.
Um, so there's all these kind of different reasons that kind of either help encourage or help discourage silence as well.
I think age has a lot to do, age and gender has a lot to do with silence.
So we do know, of course, like countries like Australia speaking up is a little bit easier in general.
So like the level silence is generally a little bit lower, um, which which is good.
Um, but the older you get, the data tends to show there's a trend that the older you get, you tend to um
be less silent as well.
So of course, but that often correlates with being more experienced in the workplace or being in the job for longer as well.
But also we do know that um females tend to remain more silent than males, which I think is something we can really work on and creating a culture where like females can feel safer to speak up and and share what they have and in their minds.
And it's often to do
if especially in white collar work, like the culture that's being created in corporates as well.
Yeah, so I was thinking a lot about this um in terms of casualization and part-time.
And in Australia at the moment, we see a rise in numbers of fixed-term roles, contract work, part-time casual work, not as many permanent continuing work anymore.
There's no clear kind of trend yet, but I think my sense of this is because it depends on
Kind of what career stage one is at and also their personal motives.
Like, do they enjoy the job or not?
Do they want to be in this job the next couple of years or not?
For example, an employee who is on a casual contract might speak up because they feel that they don't need to care.
They might not have a job tomorrow anyway.
