So they might choose not to speak up and they might not remain silent.

So they might be able to do that.

But then someone who has a different view on casualization is that I need this job because I'm on a casual contract and I want them to eventually hire me, for example, or I want to keep getting hours.

So maybe I'll stay silent because otherwise I don't want to go against the norm.

So I don't think it's ever like a clear relationship, but it depends on the personal motives, but also the context of the workplace that they're in.

Is it encouraging or different?

Discouraging of that behaviour or not.

Yes.

So um in our in our own research, because it's I am a teams researcher and and a team leadership researcher by trade.

So like I am always very interested in kind of the the structure of teams and the workplace.

And we do know that the the larger the team gets the h easier it is to become silent because there's other members in the workplace as well.

So how we structure and design teams to our

Uh, optimal size is very important.

So, this is this is a tip for organizations as well here.

And of course, um, when the organization gets really big, you start to form these pockets of silence.

So, some teams and some departments might be more silent than others.

And this is what we found in our own research as well, across hospitals and banks, where certain branches, certain wards, for example, remain more silent than others.

Because of the kind of mini subcultures or subclimates that are created in those pockets.

And so it at least it means we know that things could be changed and things could be rebalanced.

But what we want to prevent is that every department, every team is silent in an organization.
