Like, I'm sitting next to somebody.
I got food in my teeth.
Of course, I want you to tell me.
That's what it means to be a friend.
I like you more, not less.
Right when you tell me this.
Yeah, in fact, psychologists think that self-esteem is really our sense of what others are thinking of us and how well we're doing in the social world.
No, no, there is.
So self-esteem really comes from certainty.
being certain about who you are, confident in who you are, and that makes you less worried about what other people are thinking because you kind of know who you are.
So as you get older, for instance, you tend to be a little less uncertain.
When you're younger, a teenager, a young adult, you're a little more worried about this.
And so self-esteem also tends to be a little bit lower.
You tend to be affected a little bit more by the slings and arrows that life can sometimes throw at you.
The email somebody sent that you thought was a little not nice or the comment somebody made that was a little negative or something that somebody passed along to you, you know, heard secondhand can hurt you a little bit more.
Self-esteem is highly sensitive to how we're doing with others.
And so that means having close friends is good for our sense of ourselves.
That's one thing.
But even with strangers, like I don't have anxiety about connecting with other people.
I know that when I reach out to other folks, it tends to go well.
