Tom showed that people think they're being noticed much more than they actually are, particularly when you're doing something embarrassing.

Tom is the one who I learned how to do research from.

To be fair, Tom ran this with many different kinds of t-shirts.

One study was with Barry Manilow, but he also tested, you know, Vanilla Ice and John Tesh.

But it even shows up when they're wearing shirts that they're proud of too.

But the effects are a little bigger when they're embarrassing.

People don't notice.

They're not even at above chance levels in the experiment.

Yes.

Two things there.

One is you don't notice that they've got the food in their teeth.

But the other is that once you do, cut them some slack.
