I'm not that kind of psychologist, Liz.

I don't do individual diagnoses.

But look, if you think that's part of what's going on, it could be.

then that is the phenomenon.

Well, so pick up the phone and call somebody.

That's the way it works the best.

So your voice, though, is what really carries warmth.

Your voice is what carries clarity, allows you to be understood.

It also carries the sound of friendliness and kindness much better than typing does.

Typing is just dead text.

Your voice has life to it.

It has kindness in it.

It is also the thing that connects us.

So that's one thing you can do.

But the other thing is other people don't care that much.

Not as much as, yeah.

And years ago, back when I was in graduate school, working with Tom Gilovich and Ken Savitsky at Cornell University, one of the things we did when I was in grad school is we assessed how well can we anticipate how others are judging us, particularly when we're in situations where we're somewhat nervous about how we're being judged.

And we found just over and over again that we tend to think that others are harsher.

in their evaluations of us than they actually are.

This shows up in a bunch of ways.
