So first, is this common?
The answer is no, it's not.
And I suspect that's not actually about age.
There's no data that I've ever seen that suggests that people enjoy interacting with other people less as they get older.
If anything, that's pretty constant.
And actually, older people tend to be happier than younger people because they tend to interact with folks they like a little bit more.
I think the key here, and he put his finger on it, which is I haven't found the people who I really enjoy engaging with.
more.
That's the key.
I mean, you can have pleasant interactions with almost anybody for short periods of time, but friends that you have over the long run are folks you enjoy doing things together with.
And keeping looking for those kinds of people might be helpful.
The other thing that I think you might want to keep in mind too is sometimes we can close ourself off to other people because we're not willing to bend so much and work with them a little bit.
I think this happens a lot in relationships.
A lot of whether a relationship goes well or poorly isn't a function of how well matched I am to you, but am I willing to make myself the right person for you in some way and find enjoyment in the things that you find enjoyment in and keep working until we find things that we enjoy doing together.
but also to make myself open to trying and enjoying some of the things that you are doing, making myself right for you.
And so I think some of this both give and take could be helpful here, both, you know, keeping an eye out for folks who do have things in common, but also can you make yourself right for other people?
If you can, you'll find it more rewarding.
I think you can.
And I think you need to keep looking a little bit.
But I would also encourage folks who think they can't find folks who they like where they live to ask, is there something about me that maybe I'm not quite doing right, that I might be able to change?
