Like anger is a universal indicator that I am being violated, right?
Either you're violating my physical space, my emotional space, and or I'm violating myself because I'm neglecting or abandoning and none of my needs are being met.
Fear, very common reaction.
We're all gonna feel fear when something is threatening or unknown in our environment, right?
Because it tells us to pay attention.
And if this threat is too big, to get the heck out of here.
So all emotions, believe it or not, while they don't come with a handbook, they are necessary for us to experience.
And shame in particular.
Because humans, right, we're not the biggest, baddest mammal on the planet, meaning we could get killed by a lot of the animals that we're sharing space with.
So we learned very early on, humans that is, our ancestors, that we are much safer in a group of at least another person, if not a whole village of people, than we are alone.
So shame is an emotion that grew out of our ability to connect with others that allows us to not only attune to or sense the very objective rules of the community, the things that we have to do to stay a part of the community or get kicked out, but also the nonverbal things.
That we have to do to belong.
And because belonging is safety and survival, it's so important.
So I went to that very long-vended kind of set.
I hear you.
Because we need to feel that.
And it starts so early.
Shame does.
Why?
Because again, as an infant that's completely dependent, our first village, right, is whoever was in our home.
