I think addiction in general, though I'll say focus on food, I believe it's a it is a coping habit that is developed again at a very early time when we either could not or did not have the ability to be regulated or safety, create safety, and or when we have the experience of deep rooted shame.
When we're meant made to believe that for whatever reason we're not worthy, we're not worthy for the care, right?
To have the comfort and the support that we need it.
So I believe food addiction, right, kind of goes into that category of some habit that we have learned very early on that is aimed at making us feel better, regulating upset emotions, and/or gaining a sense of worthiness.
Food also.
if we want to kind of unpack all the different layers of it, is often the first point of connection between us and a caregiver.
Yeah.
Right.
Our core needs, right, is Yeah.
That's my mom.
And it's my mom too, right?
Because my mom having n did not having the emotional resources herself, being raised by much older generation, um, adults who believe that children quite literally were be seen and not heard.
Um, did not have any conversation about emotions, attunement, so simply could not connect with us.
her children and I'm sure the ways that she wanted to.
But what she could do was connect with us through
Food.
And so for me, I have had and still do have a lifelong just a relationship with food and nutrition that I continue to unpack, though one of the deepest connections for me was quite literally that food was a moment to connect with.
