We all do it.
But if it's your only coping tool, like it's the only tool in your toolbox that can become problematic, just like alcohol, right?
People turn to alcohol sometimes to cope.
Fine.
But is it your go-to?
Are you doing it on most days?
That could be problematic.
And or it becomes problematic if it causes distress, right?
If it is causing you to have distress, you're beating yourself up over it, that shame, that guilt, it becomes a cycle, then it's also problematic.
Yeah, and the first thing would be I would acknowledge that awareness that they already have, right?
Like, wow, like I'm turning to food.
When I'm feeling emotional, what can I do, right?
So kind of give that positive reinforcement that that's a great first step that a lot of people don't really realize.
So that's great.
And then what I would say is the next time you catch yourself turning to food, I want you to pause.
and check in with yourself.
And you can ask yourself a few questions.
It can be like, when is the last time that I ate, right?
Because if you ate an hour ago, that's gonna give you a different message than if you ate three hours ago.
Maybe you're physiologically hungry and chocolate really sounds good to you right now, right?
