Not one single school said yes.

And so that's when I started to say, okay, wait a minute.

Maybe, maybe I heard that wrong.

Maybe this isn't what I was supposed to be doing.

But I knew in my heart that was the first thing that would be going through my mind when I'd wake up in the morning.

And the last thought going through my mind before I would close my eyes and go to bed is like, I know that I can do this and I want to do this.

So I persisted.

I actually ended up getting a phone call one day from Indiana University School of Medicine saying,

thinking, oh, wow, I bypassed the interview process somehow.

I don't know how this happened.

They're just going to call and invite me to come and join their class because it was getting late into the application season.

And most this was probably around April or so.

Most people have already heard by, you know, January, February that they've been accepted.

And I'm looking at the calendar like, OK, it's April.

What are we doing here?

And the lady on the other end of the phone said, hey, we got your application.

And it was good, but it just wasn't quite good enough to be considered to get accepted into the first year class.

And I just remember just hearing this complete silence, like, oh, my God, did she just say that?

You called to tell me I'm not good enough.

You could have just sent me a letter like everybody else did.
