I don't even know if people know what pop-up books are nowadays, but received a pop-up book of human anatomy one year for Christmas.

And that was it.

It was like, I fell in love and I knew this is what I wanted to do.

Then came the reality, the reality, reality that

Hey, I don't have any physicians in my family.

I had no idea what it was going to take to get to medical school.

And that path to medical school was going to involve, unfortunately, at the time, receiving 50 rejection letters.

I applied to 20 medical schools the first year I applied, and not one single school said yes.

I didn't even get an offer to go to the next round, which is getting like a secondary application to answer more questions and write more essays.

And so I said, OK, you know, you can only apply to medical school once per year.

I don't know if many of you know that.

So it's a one and done type thing.

If you don't get in the first year you apply, that's it.

You have to sit out and wait another 12 months.

So I did because I knew I wanted to be a doctor and I thought, well, you know what?

I'm going to, there's safety in numbers, right?

So I'm going to apply to 10 more schools.

The second year I applied and applied to 30 schools and got the same exact result.
