Literally to this day, I still remember her telling me that because she said, you could stay here and apply again from this vantage point.

or you can take a chance and do something different.

Like the door of opportunity has just opened up for you.

And I didn't realize at that time, but that detour, that unplanned detour was a part of my destiny.

It was probably one of the best closed doors that could have ever happened.

So that being said, ultimately, yes, I moved.

I went to

I moved to Indiana, not knowing a soul, started this master's program, did very well, and applied to medical school, got accepted, ended up staying at Indiana University.

And I thought my struggles were over.

I'm pretty sure we've all been there.

Yes.

You work really hard.

You strive for something and you're like, oh, I did it.

You finally get across that finish line running the marathon or finally submit your manuscript for your book and you think, hey, I have accomplished my goal.

That's it.

I can wash my hands of this.

I can keep moving on.

And I got blindsided.

My second year of medical school, which is a rite of passage for every second year medical student is the year that you take the first round of your licensing exams.

And if you don't pass this exam, you don't get to practice medicine.
