So I can say yes to finish on time, going to my Pilates class, doing all those other things, seeing my friends again.
Really important stuff, but people do worry about saying no and setting those boundaries.
There's a wonderful book I was talking about earlier called Defy, and they say, actually, we are punished in Western society for saying no.
People will push back on us.
You know, they'll look at us.
We shouldn't really be doing that, but it is really important we do it.
And actually, when people start doing it...
Often the consequences aren't quite as much as they think.
It's what I see in clinic.
I'm not saying it's for everyone.
It's what I see in clinic.
But the consequences can also be profound for the team.
Because if you get somebody in your team who's able to say no in a reasonable way, a respectful way,
it allows the rest of the team to start to be able to say no in a reasonable and respectful way and if you get somebody senior in that team who's able to do that frees up the team to think what is possible what are our priorities if we keep responding to everything that's urgent then do we do are we doing the important stuff so i i'd say yes there's lots of fear about saying no but actually culturally
It's incredibly important.
And if we want our organisations to thrive, we need to be saying no more often because actually saying yes to everything is probably leading our organisations to underperform.
Now, let's take that idea seriously that if you're saying no, you might lose your job.
What I would say is good work is good for us, but bad work is bad for us.
If we're in the position where to protect our boundaries, to protect our well-being could lose us our job, we might want to think about what our next options are.
And sometimes I do see people in my clinic
