It could take just a few minutes a day and then changing some of your habits like how you pee and poop could make a big difference.
Thanks for having me, David.
Absolutely.
It's one of the main functions of this group of muscles.
So to even take a step backwards, your pelvic floor muscles sit at the bottom of your pelvis, and they support your pelvic organs.
They hold in pee and poop until you're ready to go to the bathroom.
And in female bodies, they have the vaginal opening for vaginal intercourse, vaginal birth, orgasms, and menstruation.
So
If you have strong coordinated pelvic floor muscles, you can have great sensation during sexual intercourse.
You can have orgasms that are strong and pleasurable, and you've got a lot of healthy blood flow to the area.
I will say on the flip side, some people do struggle with painful intercourse and the inability to have orgasms if their muscles are too tense.
We talk about weakness a lot for these muscles, but they can also be too tight or tense, which can influence sexual health.
Right.
So these are muscles like every other muscle in your body.
If you are contracting them throughout the day when you need them, say when you're lifting weights, lifting your kids, putting things into your car, if you're moving throughout the day, these muscles need blood flow.
So making sure you're getting up and taking daily walks.
Not tensing in these muscles when you're stressed or sitting through stressful Zoom meetings or in traffic.
And when you're relaxing well to have good bowel movements and empty your bladder well.
Those are the day-to-day things you can do to keep these pelvic floor muscles healthy.
And then you can strengthen them.
