Just like if you want bigger biceps, you do more bicep curls, right?
You can do more pelvic floor contractions to strengthen these muscles.
So Kegels are pelvic floor muscle contractions.
It's like as if you are trying to hold in urine or hold in gas.
So they're tightening and lifting of these muscles, but you also have to relax the muscles well.
I think the narrative in the 90s was just do your Kegels and your pelvic floor is going to be healthy.
That is not always true.
You have to contract these muscles and relax them well.
And you also have to use the muscles in different positions.
You can't just do Kegels in the carpool lane.
You have to do them with strength training.
Any traffic lane.
But you've got to use them in standing and squatting and lunging and all of the activities you need throughout the day.
So they are one exercise.
It's like saying if you have back pain, just do crunches.
It definitely takes more than that.
If you have you want stronger pelvic floor muscles, this is the way to start.
But you have to do longer contractions, different positions and build them into strength training.
Absolutely.
I think, you know, one of the biggest mistakes, and this is getting better, is that we were all taught to like just hold these muscles super tight all the time, like suck your belly button in, tighten your vagina.
