However, I think sometimes we can be so conditioned to do that, that we can overvalue other people's needs and undervalue our own.
And I think that's, again, when we can give in to a boundary and sort of compromise.
And the other is, yeah, when someone does react with real anger and aggression, because it's so unpleasant, it's so easy, but I've really learned to hold the boundary in those moments because...
Yeah, I mean, I've had that experience at work in various leadership positions that I've been in where people don't like the boundary that's been set and get really angry and pushed back.
And I know that if I give in and change it just because of that anger, what's that teaching?
So I think what you're a lovely example just then has said, what's the message behind a boundary?
That's the thing, isn't it?
So sometimes I'll say to people, what's the message you want to convey?
And if you have that as your intention, when you set the boundary, you're not trying to change other people's behavior.
I think that's really important with boundaries, isn't it?
The boundary is there for you.
You're not setting a boundary on somebody else.
The boundary is there for you.
But what's the message you're trying to give?
Whether people hear that or not.
you can't control.
I don't know what you think about that.
Yeah, it's a really good question.
Just thinking of an example might be, say for a clinician, they want to set a boundary for themselves and for their family that they get home at a reasonable time, but they're continually being asked to stay later.
And there are times when you want to flex that boundary.
