But really in a consultation level, it was so powerful just to ask some more open questions and realise I didn't have to do all the work for some of the issues that people were coming with.

And then I think after that, I started teaching medical students and using coaching in that aspect of my work and also as a GP appraiser.

And that's perfect for asking coaching questions.

And one thing kind of led to another in that way in terms of opportunities that came up.

And then I found myself starting to be involved with communication skills workshops for one of the medical defence organisations and facilitating that and teaching communication skills, which was a real fascination for me.

I think a lot of it has just become unconscious.

I do remember my husband saying to me, oh no, you're playing mind games again when you're asking those kind of questions.

For him and the kids when they were teenagers, it was brilliant to use that.

So I think, you know, in home life, in relationships, definitely I've used coaching a lot.

But the way I'm using it more professionally is one-to-one with doctors, other senior healthcare leaders.

I trained as a conflict coach and a mediator because probably about 10 years ago, I was being asked to coach people who

Either I'd been put on an action plan, don't mean that.

There'd been an action plan put in place for someone, say, with anger, who had been demonstrating quite a lot of anger issues.

And when I coached them, it became quite clear that there was unresolved conflict in the situation.

So I ended up actually not just coaching that person, but maybe a manager or another team colleague.

And then I became very interested in mediation as a wider skill.
