I think a lot of people are looking for backbone now.
And this notion that I think Bob Iger and other media leaders have had that you can just sort of get through these four years by settling lawsuits or saying the right thing at the right time and hoping the problem goes away.
That's not how the Trump administration works.
That's not how Donald Trump works.
He's going to keep coming back.
He's going to keep applying the pressure.
And at a certain point, these guys are going to have to develop some backbone or they're just going to get run over.
I do.
I just think that the landscape that we're in today, if you're sitting where a media executive is sitting, you can make a lot of peons to the importance of journalism, about the importance of the independence of journalism, the separation of church and state between the business side and the editorial side.
But at the end of the day, you have a lot more considerations.
You have your fiduciary duty to your shareholders, right?
You have to actually think about the long game and what it would mean potentially to run afoul of an administration that actually does have quite a bit of leverage here.
I mean, the reason that it's the broadcast networks that have sort of taken it and had to pay these settlements, whereas organizations like The New York Times or The Wall Street Journal can stand up to lawsuits.
is because the FCC has this very specific, and you mentioned George Carlin, I think George Carlin would say pretty absurd and archaic, power to influence the broadcast networks.
Now, the future of media, as you know as well as I do, Don, the future of media is not broadcast television, but they remain big pillars in our society for the time being.
And seeing Colbert get canceled, seeing Jimmy Kimmel be preempted,
amid blatant FCC pressure, it's just problematic.
