And I mean, I should say these officers were caught and they were jailed about three years each, non-parole.
But
I think it says something about, certainly that the relatives of Jodie to whom we spoke are cousins.
Their view was, what does this say about the culture of the police?
That these two could do that in broad daylight.
In this small street, we've been there, we had a look at it, there's cameras everywhere, CCTV.
One of the officers even had his own body worn camera recording.
But they felt emboldened to do that and didn't think it was going to be the end of their careers or a significant jail time.
Yeah, well that's, I mean, it's a very good question.
You know, there is a significant problem at the moment.
You know, if you speak to any frontline police officer, they will say the vast majority of their work is DV and mental health.
They are just overwhelmed.
And that is a big problem because what happens is police officers who frankly aren't very well trained when it comes to dealing with mental health issues, they get some training.
They do some online modules.
They do, I think, some kind of scenario training, real world scenario training once a year.
But, you know, it's not their job.
So when they're the ones who are dealing with this stuff, and, you know, they more often than not resort to violence.
Sorry, not more often than not, but they will sometimes resort to violence.
And, you know, that's a concern.
And the government's tried various initiatives.
