Hypothetical.

Let's say your daughter got into a fight at the bar and got a heavy sentence for assault because women often receive stiffer sentences than men for the same crimes.

And that statement is for sure true about black, brown and indigenous women.

Sounds like she just took the training well I gave her my whole life.

Now let's say you're from Pensacola and they decide to put your daughter at Lowell Correctional.

That's a six hour drive and you're only allowed to visit for one hour.

You can't just get back in your car and drive home after the visit.

That's assuming you have enough money to even own a car.

So you have to get a hotel room, but you can't just go for one day because a trip like this can cost a lot of time and money.

And you most likely can't get back there in a while and you got to go back to work.

So that's assuming you're lucky enough to be employed, including the missed time from work.

A simple trip to visit your daughter in prison could end up costing you well over a thousand dollars.

Yeah.

So Lowell Correctional Institution holds most of Florida's female prisoners.

With a population of almost 3,000 women, it is the largest women's prison in the United States.

Lowell Correctional is a playground for predator guards.

There are too few cameras.

In the past decade, thanks to things like COVID, there have been staff shortages and mismanagement.
