These attitudes they they are everywhere and some people would identify as part of the rationalist community and some of them just kinda seem to have some of those ideologies and it all just seems to come from matched

wealthy Silicon Valley types, you know, um like I mentioned there about the anti-introspection trend that's happening these days. matched

There's a huge Silicon Valley investor called Mark Andresen and he's one of them who's like, you know, I don't have to think inwardly and I don't have to practice self-reflection. matched

He would also be like such a fierce proponent of this kind of like matched

long termism effective altruism that he has said that you're a murderer if you stop AI development because of the people it could potentially save if we continue AI development. matched

It's extreme. matched

And another one of the extremes is the rationalists, the rationalist community. matched

They fundamentally believe in the inevitability of a superintelligence being created. matched

Like that's something that they share. matched

They fully believe that that's something that can be created with computer code. matched

That's not something that's shared across the scientific community. matched

I have to caveat this and say, but they have such conviction in that belief, and the inherent risks that that presents then spooks them because they believe that this is really going to happen. matched

So they get spooked when they realize what might come of that as well. matched

So then they put out these ideas, but they're all based on matched

their own projections and thought experiments and matched

You get these fuzzy forecasts like Huppinger's ten percent chance. matched
