experiencing a persecutory delusion, they are going to filter everything that they experience, even that is neutral or contradictory, and through confirmation bias, they're going to keep looking at it as a way to confirm the persecutory delusion.

What I've also seen, as this has even happened with me, is that then they will also go try to find other people experiencing the same persecutory delusion to kind of piggyback and add on to what they're already thinking.

In this way, if we're adding on or we're taking neutral information and we're trying to fit it into this persecutory delusion, the car outside isn't just a car anymore.

What happens here is you start to see intentionality and malice everywhere you look.

Another type of delusion is a referential delusion.

This one is fascinating because it shows you how predictive processing can begin swallowing neutral information and turning it into something that it was never intended to be.

Everything starts to feel like it's about you.

The song playing at the grocery store has a message specifically for you.

A television host uses a certain phrase because somebody or some spiritual being arranged for you to hear those words.

Maybe you see the number three three three three times in one day and it starts to feel like evidence that something big is happening or God is trying to talk to you.

Maybe an Instagram post appears at the precise right moment that you believe it was placed there specifically for you by God.

Or conversely, the government is stalking you through your social media, or an intelligence agency is secretly communicating with you through your social media accounts.

I've literally witnessed people going through these type of referential delusions and it's actually really alarming.
