Psychosis is broader than delusion.

Psychosis can include delusions and hallucinations, but it also includes disorganized thinking and behavior and other disruptions in the person's ability to determine what is real.

So somebody can have delusional beliefs as part of psychosis, but delusion and psychosis are not exactly synonymous.

There are several major themes that clinicians see repeatedly with delusion.

The first type is persecutory delusions.

This is essentially the idea that someone is trying to hurt me or someone is stalking me, someone is out to get me, the government is watching me, my neighbors are poisoning me, my husband is secretly conspiring against me, people at work are conspiring behind my back.

The important distinction is that legitimate danger does exist in the world.

And sometimes people are actually being followed.

Sometimes people are actually being abused or manipulated or harmed.
