And this is why I think people need to be very careful when you dip into a type of spiritual certainty that can lead you into sleep deprivation, extreme fasting.

prolonged emotional arousal, even people that start to dip into again like medicines, substances, or anything where you are losing again your tether to everyday human life.

All of those factors are going to add on and make you less stable.

The problem isn't God.

The problem is when the brain starts losing the ability to differentiate internal meaning from externally verifiable information.

And now we get into another mechanism that is extremely important.

Gaslighting.

And I'm not talking about somebody just disagreeing with you, although in today's world it's very common for people to be like, Why are you gaslighting me?

And to be honest, as I mentioned earlier in the podcast.

It's very common that as you are trying to reality test and help walk a person out of a delusional state.

If they're deeply invested in their feelings and their emotions, they will see you as the intruder to their experience and your attempts to reality test and help pull them back.

will often be seen as gaslighting until they have timed out of it and come to a more objective, stable place.

A way to look at this, I know I've said this in past episodes, would be like the scene in Inception, where if you change too much too quickly, the person subconscious becomes aware that you're there changing something, and then all the subconscious starts to turn on you.

When you attempt to expose the error to somebody who is very deeply invested in their delusion.

what is likely to occur from there is extreme triggering.

And like I said, it's very common for that person to then turn the finger and say that you're the one gaslighting them.

And we already know from multiple episodes on Decoded, I believe the word gaslighting has been watered down and it actually is used completely incorrectly.

And it's often used in the context of conflict where gaslighting is not actually even slightly on the table.
