Yeah, so this is the childcare worker that is connected to the charge against Riald Bouchaker of assault causing serious harm.
And before I get into her evidence, I would like to warn listeners that a lot of it might be quite upsetting for people to hear.
It's quite detailed.
But Leanne Flynn told the court.
that her usual day at the creche began at one o'clock and she would collect the children from school at half past one and walk them back to the creche for the after school care and she said another staff member would always help her and the children would pair up at the school railings before walking back with a staff member at the front and the back of the group and this is how things began on the day in question on the 23rd of November 2023.
Now she said she arrived at the school on that day to see the second staff member waiting there for her and she told the court while they were putting on coats and counting the children a man dressed in dark clothing grabbed her attention nearby.
At first she thought he was waiting for the bus but the bus came and went and he didn't get on it and she said she noticed him but didn't pay full attention to him because her priority was the children.
She said, And she said,
she let out a shout and asked him what he was doing and told him to get away from the children then went at him and grabbed him from behind and she grabbed at the back of his jacket and turned him around and said she could see him clearly and that he looked confused almost as though he wasn't expecting an adult or someone bigger to approach him and she said she swung at him and they were in a tussle almost during which he stabbed her in her back left side
she said she didn't realize she was stabbed when it happened but she felt something wet and the man then went back to the children swinging his knife and some of the children at this point had moved and others were frozen in panic and she let out a scream for help and that's when other adults intervened and she was grabbing the children telling them to run so she moved up that street herself too and stopped on the steps of a nearby hotel because she said at this point she was getting lightheaded and finding it hard to breathe and there was a big commotion and loads of adults standing
around the man and she said she realized then that she was stabbed and rang the other manager of the creche and her partner to tell them what had happened and she was treated by paramedics on the steps for about five or ten minutes before being taken to the matter hospital and she remained in hospital for a month after suffering multiple injuries and she told the court her lung had collapsed and that's why she was finding it hard to breathe her diaphragm had been severed and that caused her other lung to collapse too and she said her spleen was removed part of her stomach
was injured as well and she was put in an induced coma and had two emergency surgeries and she still hasn't returned to work to this day.
Yeah, so starting off the cross-examination, the defence said that it wasn't suggesting that anybody else caused the knife injury that the childcare worker had suffered, other than Ria Bouchaker, and it also wasn't suggesting that any knife injuries suffered that day were by anybody else.
When asked if it appeared there was something wrong with him at the time, Ms Flynn said no, that he looked confused at first, almost like she had disturbed him and that he was shocked, like he wasn't expecting her to grab him.
