Ultimately, we're all hostages to the algorithm here.
So I think I've I've had some buy-in with some clients where it's just like, you know what?
It's their platform, it's their algorithm, they're the boss.
Oh sorry, it's Google's fault.
And I think sometimes that can take the sting out of it as well.
Just, you know, we're all in this boat together.
I'm on your side against Google.
Here we go.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's a great question because I think there are really two ways to progress in an SEO career.
You can either become very specialist, um, you know, you can go within two
say technical SEO and become a specialist in that, or you can go into a more um managerial position where, you know, you have more control over the strategy, more
contact with clients or with business leaders and you start to become the face of it, the face of the strategy and the plan.
If that's something that you want to do, we would argue that you really need to be focused on getting that credibility built up and focusing on the training on the strategy.
So with my team, for example, we have a progression plan that takes people from that kind of senior executive implementation role into a manager role.
Um and it focuses on um them being able to define strategies for say new business prospects or new client briefs, um, and it actually focuses their soft skills in terms of communication, building presentations.
being able to challenge clients positively as well on some of the assumptions that they have and some of the things in their brief and pushing back on, say, other directions or more information we would need.
So I would say if somebody is at that point in their career where they're ready to transition into more of a strategic role, then to be trying to make sure that you're in the room for any conversations about clients, that you're asking questions above and beyond
The implementation of SEO to quiz clients about their business, their challenges, and actually make sure that you are constantly asking why things are being done, because that transition is more a mentality shift than a capability shift.
So yeah, that's something that we focus on a lot as an agency is transitioning from doing the work to thinking about why we're doing the work and being able to get clients on board.
