Moment to segue into, I absolutely appreciate that you bring the role of trauma into not being able to manage our finances.

It started me saying, I grew up in an extremely volatile house where I never felt comfortable.
voice-verified
Like I could entirely relate.
voice-verified
I even knew when I came out of my room what kind of, you know, feeling was going to be in the house and I was wasting time on glass.
voice-verified
Ouch.

And I think a lot of people, and I can see how...
voice-verified
um when i mean i can see how that relates to the relationship i had with my body like if i could just control at least what i eat and how i exercise then i've got some sense of control in my life but my nervous system was always so jacked up tell us about it was really enlightening to me tell us about how that impacts our ability to yeah think about finances

For the listener hearing this, I want to offer a very specific way to hear this because it can happen.

It's been both quite, at first a little bit confronting, I have to admit.
voice-verified
Because I was like, oh, I didn't really realize that that was the, you know, I didn't, I hadn't made a connection between leaving home at 16 and not having, not,
voice-verified
with realizing that I just didn't really feel that safe at home.
voice-verified
So it felt much safer to leave.
voice-verified
That is actually a trauma experience in the body.

But what I want the next step that I want to leave listeners with is that it's very powerful to know that that's not your fault and having compassion for it is hugely healing.
voice-verified
It actually makes sense that my brain has struggled to do basic, you know, like as you said, it's actually quite basic to follow a spreadsheet and put some money in, some investing when you're not, you know, when you actually acknowledge this is kind of what I'm, this is the world, this is the context in which I'm living in.

And that's what I wanted those women in that seminar, in that workshop, I wanted them to know actually there's nothing wrong with them if they're finding that information confronting.
voice-verified
We need that normalization of it, that this is really common, it's normal, your nervous system's having a moment.
voice-verified
And it's very normalised.
