And I think probably even more impressive on the GB side is that there were a bunch of quote-unquote upsets that occurred that we didn't predict and that were not just the favored winner, whether it was winner or podium placement, who made a mistake but also really effective opportunity-taking and capitalizing and good decision-making
from an athlete and coaching perspective.
And I know that that is challenging to do.
A lot of the times when you see quote unquote bad coaching calls, sometimes that has to do with a personal coach and the team coach disagree.
Sometimes it has to do with a different philosophy of the team, not necessarily having good communication and buy-in from the athletes or the athletes kind of ultimately having the final say, or sometimes
a coaching staff who doesn't consult enough with the personal coach or the athlete and sets them up for failure because they didn't get that type of advice or a coaching staff that doesn't have a type of mentoring system where
Every one of the coaches is on the same page and you kind of have to go, listen, this guy is going to do some weird attempt selection, but he's not open to change and we have no mechanism to improve that.
So I don't think everyone knows what truly goes into having a good team performance, but it's heavily relational.
And I take my hats off because I know that a team of that size takes that type of emotional intelligence, not just understanding, you know, the type of attempt selection strategies that are important because that's not easy to do.
And it takes more than just one person.
So hats off.
Well done, Team GB.
An excellent job, Matt.
It is, I think, a great example of how things should operate.
Yeah, Matt won't say this, but I will because I've actually been the recipient of it and watched how it works.
But he's been training for this modern environment of ideal powerlifting coaching for decades before it became a thing.
I...
he won't share the details and he probably shouldn't from a professional perspective, but there were times more than a decade ago and sometimes a decade and a half ago, close to it now that we're nearly 15 years removed from the first classic world championships, um, where,
matt was attempting to bring this level of cohesion focus that the more organized federations understand is important for team coaching before that was a thing in raw powerlifting and it was why are you getting in my business i'm here to compete and i do my own thing it works for me bro kind of perspective and strong personalities people who are also strong physically but don't necessarily have the understanding of what it takes to be successful on the platform
misunderstood intentions rationale and i'm sure matt would of course humbly say that you know he's developed his relational skills to deliver those messages and in better ways now over the decade and a half that he's been doing it um but i can tell you as a personal coach who's worked with matt multiple times and other people who he's mentored into similar positions across multiple different nations um i can tell you that he it's so much more than him having like the itendo
