It's not really like moving his profile, but if he's on your big league roster, chances are he's going to play center field at least once in a while.
But it's not like an impact part of his game.
So,
Both those guys are marginal prospects for me, where Bateman is definitely going to be in the mix within the next year or two.
Just as like on the fringe of the 40-man, give this guy an opportunity.
Let's see how much stronger we can make him.
And Ty Saffstein is more like long-term.
Maybe he can play shortstop if he develops there.
And if he does, then...
He's maybe a luxury utility guy who's not striking out, but again, no pro home runs for Ty Southasine yet.
The guys who hit for at least a little bit of power are the ones who you tend to prioritize as prospects, but obviously the Blue Jays do things a little bit differently.
An Ernie Clement-type outcome where Bateman is the outfield version of it and Ty Southasine is literally a sequel of it are the best sorts of outcomes that you could expect from these two guys.
Yeah, it can be.
I think when you're talking about Ty Southasine and him being 21 years old, that there's a difference between a 21-year-old who's 5'7 and totally yoked and muscular to the degree that Ty Southasine is, which is, for 5'7, he's a strong kid.
But I can't really project on him growing into much more power because the cement just looks dry on his body at 5'7".
If he were 6'2", 170 or 180, whatever he is, rather than 5'7", then okay, maybe in his mid-20s there's room for more strength.
There are definitely players in baseball who aren't tall, who are shorter, but still find ways to be strong and get stronger as they enter their physical prime in their mid-20s.
That has more to do with their personhood,
and the organization that they're in, having them on the right strength and conditioning program.
You see this all the time with guys like Tommy Nance, who was traded away a couple weeks ago.
