But what we typically see negotiated is stuff like, hey, if you want this, you know, ultra large data center to come in, that data center also needs to pay for the substation upgrades.
Correct.
Which can be tens of millions of dollars.
But they're happy to do it.
Yeah.
And they also come in and they sign 15 or 20 year offtake agreements, which stabilizes the power plant and the utilities income.
And it typically lowers rates in the region.
Correct.
And they're not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts.
They want power and they don't want torches and pitchforks.
Exactly.
So keep up the community engagement.
But it's a bit of a myth, you know, a data center came in, so my rates went up.
It's also a place I think there needs to be more accountability on the utilities
Because we're both very personally aware of more than one instance where rate schedules with increases had been published before the data center was ever even requested.
And then the boogeyman came out of nowhere.
It was a very convenient scapegoat for rates going up, even though they were paying for infrastructure upgrades and paying for long-term off-ticket agreements.
I think one of the most interesting things, and this is where I am going to be in the corner of data centers on this, is we are finally seeing the utilities get the right incentives to build more power.
The U.S.
's total power production, I think, don't hold me to this, I think rose from like maybe five terawatt hours or something like that in the 2010s.
