And then there were also the leaders attending the G7 that had lunch with the CEOs and the high ranking executives of Frontier AI labs and the big tech company. podcast-host

And these were just some of the topics on the top of my mind this week, but I found them worthwhile to connect them with each other and to also dive into them a bit further. podcast-host

And before we jump right into all of those topics that I just named in the introduction, there was one thing that I wanted to frame up front, and it's that these three topics might sound a bit like separate news items, but for me they weren't, and that's also why I wanted to share them with you. podcast-host

And so by the end of the podcast-host

This episode, I'd love for you to take away that the AI model suspension, the Europe 2031 scenario, and the G7 lunch, they all sit at the same thread or linchpin, so to say. podcast-host

And in the end it all comes down to trust and also how we trust into the technologies that we use. podcast-host

And with it, I want to start with the first topic to look to look into. podcast-host

Which is the suspension of Fable and um Fable and Mythos V have been released on the ninth of June, and within three days a US government export directive forced them to be back offline. podcast-host

So on the twelfth of June, the Commerce Department ordered Ontropic to suspend all access to Fable V and Mythos V by any foreign national, whether inside or outside. podcast-host

Outside the US, and that also means that they included foreign national entropic employees. podcast-host

And because selectively complying to what this was simply not practical to Entropic, and so they disabled both models for everyone, while the access to the other models, including Cloud Opus 4.8, wasn't affected overall. podcast-host

And what I found telling behind this directive was that it didn't come down to a narrow non universal jay break, but um reportedly podcast-host

To a technique that involved asking the model to read a specific piece of code. podcast-host

And it was also tied to fable safeguards in the cybersecurity space. podcast-host

And Entropic said that they only received a verbal notice and no written national security rationale, and that they also publicly called it a misunderstanding. podcast-host

And what I found interesting behind that was, reportedly and before the launch, the model went through like a thousands of hours of red teaming by the US government itself and by the UK AI National Security Institute or by third parties. podcast-host
