You know, children placed appropriately with the parent when it comes to the family courts.

All of this happens because what you have at the centre is a service supporting the survivor to navigate all of this.

So what essentially has happened over the past sort of 10 years is we've seen...

that the services that are on the ground that help women escape harmful relationships and then move on and help them navigate all the things that they need to navigate in order to move on, what we're seeing is that those services have been eroded.

So, for example, we are now at a point where we have the highest first refusal rate, as I've just described, at three quarters of women and children wanting to come into community-based services or refuge services.

We're having to refuse them because we haven't got the funding, the statutory funding to do so.

When it comes to children's services, a third of them are sustained not on statutory funding, but on insecure voluntary funds.

So what we're creating is a postcode lottery.

We have inconsistent community and community-based commissioning.

We have inconsistent local authority decision-making.

So that is the deficit in the system.

I think the challenge now is that it's more underfunded than it ever has been.

And then you've got higher need coming in.

You've got new forms of harm that have been introduced through the digital and technological space.

And then you've got increasing mechanisms for perpetrators to perpetrate post-separation abuse.

So after a relationship has ended, the abuse is continuing.

And this is a good thing.

With the increased awareness, there is an increased willingness often for survivors, victims to come forward.

So the demand is increasing and actually we should be responding and leaning into that demand because then we're moving the problem, we're shifting, we're moving the dial on the issue.

But we are not in a place where we can do that because simply the funding isn't there and it is getting worse.
