So we are so insignificant in terms of our population and it's declining really rapidly and we know our birth rate is really low.
And so I sort of think about this, that we have a big piece of land on an amazing island at the bottom of the world.
and we have so many unfair advantages, so let's utilise every single one of them, because there's not many of us.
And we're a really multicultural country, so if you take the five and a half million of us today on these two islands, or three islands, I should forget, that actually we all have a place to do something quite remarkable, whereas if you're one of a population of, say, in India, over a billion people, to stand out at a billion people is pretty hard.

We've really got this amazing ability, each one of us, to say, what can we do to change things in a really positive way?
And it's all possible with one or two degrees of separation.
I think that's still the most remarkable aspect of this country is everybody is accessible.
If you've got the guts to make contact, if you can reach out, you can find that person pretty quickly.
Can you tell us what a futurist is and what a futurist does?
And I knew what futures thinking was, and there's a whole kind of philosophy around it and how people think about where the future is going.
And I always called myself an education technologist, which is a bit of a cop-out in a way, because I was sort of trying to merge these two worlds of mine, which is education and learning, and then this idea that I've always been obsessive about technology and where it's going.
The word future or futurists, I think, often will have a very kind of binary view about where things are and will have quite a narrow field.
You know, I look really broadly and look at the interrelationship.
And I think if there was one thing that I think determines the way I think, it's this idea of seeing patterns.
You know, my brain sees patterns.
I see things macro, can bring them down and distill them into micro and then talk about them about this convergence.
And I think that's probably the thing that defines the way I think and the way I play in this world.
But I don't necessarily relate directly to this term futurist because I've met futurists and I go, oh, no, that's not me.
