And then a typical day would be spent.

You may have like a local radio station or one of our own stations and news talk at Today FM or the wider Bauer Media family may be interested in a case that I'm covering.

So I may have to give a quick update from one of those stations or shows.

And then I would sit through evidence, usually two hours of evidence in the morning, another two in the afternoon.

So that's four to five hours of evidence every day that you're hearing, which for most people listening, we think, well, that's.

That's grand, isn't it?

Four or five hours.

It's heavy going.

It is heavy going.

And it is.

And you have to, like, you mightn't, of course, you're not going to be able to report on four or five hours of evidence, but you have to know what was said and you have to understand and follow everything that's happening.

for context later in the trial something that may have seemed insignificant on day two suddenly has huge relevance when the jury goes out to begin its deliberations and it's been able to like step back and that's where the real value comes from having somebody down there day to day somebody with experience that knows what they're doing and speaks the lingo is that they can go on and explain the relevance of that particular seemingly insignificant piece of evidence and that just makes for a more interesting and a kind of a

a better conversation after the fact so you will spend hours and my preference taking a note is to do it on a laptop see some people down there with shorthand Andrew Phelan from the Irish Independent deserves a shout out because he has got excellent shorthand which is just a means of getting down a handwritten note very quickly but to the uninitiated it looks like an alien language dots and squiggles and lines I'd love to be able to do it It is absolutely remarkable like you would not be able to copy Andrew Phelan's note that's for sure because you wouldn't be able to read it

I prefer to take a quicker and more efficient taking a note.

And I like to have a digital note that I can go back and look on, you know, days, days into a trial.

My lunch break then will be spent at my desk filing for the news desk, afternoon, more evidence, filing to the news desk.

And then the evening is usually the drive time shows that may want to take a hit, as we would describe it, on a particular story.

So that's a typical day.
