So I suppose...
I'm a one-man army in the sense that I would drive the station's output from the courts.
I would decide in conjunction with my editor what the biggest story of the day is.
And more often than not, there could be several going on at the same time.
So, you know, it's a delicate balancing act sometimes trying to figure out where to be and what to cover.
But it is...
It's a tough job, don't get me wrong.
You sit through some harrowing stuff, but very rewarding and a very interesting area of work too.
Yeah, there's a fear factor in covering these cases.
And I think it's maybe one of the reasons that a lot of journalists shy away from this particular area of journalism is because
It is and can be full of landmines.
It's not straight reportage in the sense that you can't just go and cover a court case as you please.
There are rules, there are restrictions.
You are very restricted in terms of what you can and can't say when a case is live.
As you well know through your work in Angardashie O'Connor, you know, once a person, an accused person comes before the courts,
They have a presumption of innocence.
They are entitled.
They have a right to a fair trial.
And as journalists, we absolutely have to respect that.
The process is the most important thing when a trial is live.
