I mean, one of the most traumatic things will be the fact that they had to wait so long for justice and maybe felt, understandably felt, that this man was untouchable.
A sentence hearing will take place later this month on the 29th.
He's been remanded in custody until then.
And aside from the victim impact statements, the judge will hear submissions from both sides in relation to the sentence that ought to be handed down.
And in terms of the length of that sentence and the significance of it or otherwise, it's
You have to remember that the law in relation to sexual offending has changed dramatically over the years, particularly when it comes to the length of sentences available to sentencing judges.
So that would be one thing for the court to take into account because you have to remember that this offending, this abuse took place in the 1970s and 1980s when
You know, to put it mildly, that the law wasn't as strict as it is nowadays.
Another thing that would be up for the judge to consider will be George Gibney's health.
As you say, 77 years of age, he's a frail old man now with health issues and his barrister has asked for an updated medical report to be made available.
ahead of the sentence hearing and the judge may then require some time to consider all the submissions and pleas and mitigation before passing sentence.
So that's not necessarily, sentences won't necessarily be handed down on the 29th of this month.
But I'm sure the survivors of George Gibney's abuse won't mind having to wait a little bit longer because
As you say, God knows they've waited long enough and they may have thought this day would never come, but it has.
