And it does just go to show, Matt, that while these types of cases involving historical sex abuse from an era where, I think it's fair to say, powerful abusers like George Gibney thought they were untouchable, well, these cases, they're very, very difficult to get across the line.
But if today proves one thing, it proves this.
They're not impossible.
I think for the most part, the justice system in this country works.
It works very slowly sometimes, and that can be frustrating.
And there are reasons behind that in terms of resources.
And, you know, no two cases are the same.
Cases of a sexual nature, for example, more often than not take longer to come before a jury than a murder trial, for example.
I don't know why that is.
Often the complexity of the case, you know, it does seem, and that adds trauma, obviously, to a complainant who is waiting in the wings for justice.
Justice delayed is justice denied, as we all know.
For the most part, I think we get it right.
I think on Garda Síochána, and I'm not just saying this because you're sitting across the table from me, but on Garda Síochána get a kicking a lot, far too often in many respects.
And they're not championed for the great work that they do day to day often enough.
That's my opinion.
Because I see that work.
I see the fruits of their labour maybe coming to pass.
And I see the incredible work they do in complex investigations, the great lengths that they go to to get justice for victims of homicide or for complainants in cases of sexual offending.
They really care.
They're professional, but they also care.
