But for the most part, in my experience, you see justice being served.

You do see people out there and you come back and you're just scratching your head wondering how a jury and we will never know such as the sanctity, I suppose, of the jury will never know how they arrived at their decision.

Some barristers are better than others.

You mentioned like a defence barrister grilling a witness.

I mean, all they care about is their client, the person sitting on the dock.

And the better defence barristers are like a dog after a bone.

And they will pick what people sitting in the public gallery would be thinking, why are they spending so long focused on this tiny, minute detail?

that in their minds, to those who don't know how these things work, is insignificant.

But what a good defence barrister does and has to do, and all they have to do, is raise little seeds of doubt in the jurors' minds.

Yeah, just raise a doubt, that's it.

So that's it.

And then when it comes to closing speeches, the better ones will pull all of these threads, all of these seeds together, and they'll then present them as one harvest, to give the analogy, to the jury.

Yeah.

And if they have raised enough seeds of doubt, that can often lead to acquittal.

So what might seem insignificant when a jury goes out, they'll be, you know, left asking themselves, well, look, that was inconsistent and that wasn't quite right and that wasn't.

And I would love to sit on a jury.

I never have.

You know, you look at the justice system as a whole then, there are so many moving parts.

And I guess that's why, I mean, a Garda Síocháin is just one part of it.
