But the reality is the oil industry is the best thing Venezuela has going for it in terms of natural resources.
And if this is successful, it could make them a major player in line with the kind of reserves they actually have.
But again, it's a very long-term play.
This is not going to materially affect gas prices ahead of the midterm elections.
It's just not.
I mean, to develop offshore oil takes a long time, even in places where there is infrastructure to do it well.
And right now in Venezuela, there's not.
So there's the production part of this on the front end.
Also, there's just the way oil and gas markets work.
You know, oil that was bound for America isn't coming through the Strait of Hormuz.
Right.
We don't import a lot of our oil.
From there.
But the global oil market is deeply integrated.
Mm-hmm.
And so adding more production is always a good thing in terms of keeping prices down.
But the idea that like doing X immediately impacts Y just isn't really how all this works.
It's a very complex system of supply and demand globally.
And so even if all that oil were online tomorrow, I don't know that it like materially helps bring down US gas prices.
Because remember, that $65 billion is like an estimate of the proven reserves that exist under the water, under the ground, off the coast of Venezuela.
