And I'm working on a history project precisely for this reason.
I feel like every generation, we need to be reminded of exactly what it took to get here and to watch it erode and be washed away and systematically chipped at over the last 60 years is on the one hand is disorienting.
But if you have a historical orientation, you can see exactly how we got here.
And so I am, you know, I'll be honest, I'm feeling a lot of emotions in this moment.
But I'm also feeling this reminder that our ancestors faced even tougher odds.
When I listen to Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, I think about the fact that my grandparents had to count jelly beans in a jar in order to vote.
They had to prove these things in order to vote.
And so and they faced racial violence on an explicit level in order to vote.
And so it's it's possible is what I'm having to remind myself in this moment.
I'm sorry to have gone so long, Don, but I'm going to grab I'm going to grab something.
I am thinking a lot about and I thank you for that.
I think a lot about in this moment how we have just squandered like we've allowed these ideological conversations.
I posted this yesterday that it's hard for me to take seriously in practice.
This idea that we must focus on class over race in a moment like this.
I point to the book written by one of my favorite books.
It's cast by Isabel Wilkerson.
She talks about how there's a difference between class struggle and cast struggle.
If you can kind of earn your way out of it, it's class struggle.
But if no matter how much money you have, no matter how much privilege you have, there are still indignities that you face because of your race, that's caste.
And we are living in a moment right now where this is so specifically targeted at people of color, Black people specifically, that it's hard to even like see, it's hard to kind of rhetoric your way around the obvious racial component at play here.
