We saw Senator Marsha Blackburn talk about a redistrict, kind of redrawing the map here in Tennessee to remove the one and only.
congressional seat where Black people are, the voice of Black people are heard, and that's all in Memphis.
And so they're going to kind of try to change the lines in Memphis to diminish Black political power there, where we have Justin Pearson running for Congress.
And so the concern here remains for me.
I appreciate what they're saying.
I hear what they're saying.
But we need a strategy that does not ignore the South.
I had this conversation with former Vice President Kamala Harris while she was on her tour.
She made an intentional effort to stop in places across the South.
And in one of her stops, I was able to have a conversation with her about this, where she said that Democrats have failed in that they have ignored the South.
They've acted as though the South is a foregone conclusion.
There hasn't been a ton of organizing effort.
And what we saw in Georgia in 2020 was that when
organizing efforts are made in that case by by stacey abrams there is very real political power in the south we can make significant gains for black people and elect the the state george's first black senator in that instance and so i think there's a real like reorientation that is needed in this moment not just to count what you have
and what you can already control, but how do you gain back control?
How do you gain in areas where you do not currently have control?
Because that's where black women are suffering.
That's where oppressive laws like here in Tennessee lead to awful outcomes in black maternal mortality.
And so we really need a moment where folks are courageous and can think outside of those existing boxes.
