make sure you know what you have in superannuation, who it's with and how it's invested.
That sounds really basic, but it is absolutely astonishing.
I know it is.
Engagement is the biggest issue every super fund has.
They struggle to engage their members.
So the very first thing is,
Do I have superannuation?
Have I gone and done a superannuation, sort of a lost super lookup just to make sure I found any funds from when I was 22 and I was working in a pub and they paid a few hundred dollars?
So have I done all of that?
I mean, there've been many important strategies employed by the government, by the ATO to ensure that's less of a risk than it used to be.
But do I have all of my super in one place?
Do I know who it's invested with?
Generally, there may be a good reason to have two, which I'll talk about, and it usually is related to insurance.
So that's just a very specific scenario where having a second fund might work.
But broadly speaking, you want to know who it's invested with, what are your fees, and
And what asset allocation do you have?
Is your employer paying you super frequently?
If you have any concerns about that, you need to track it and make sure that you're seeing it go in.
The fact it's in your payslip doesn't mean it's in your fund necessarily.
So you want to go and check.
