call it connected parenting because that is like a style of parenting like i don't advocate for parenting or um whatever i don't know whatever other sort of whatever all the other words conscious parenting i'm not a connected parent i'm just a parent i'm just me and you're just you is how i view it um connected parenting is based in a parenting style we know from the literature is best for kids
which is authoritative parenting.
So most of us were raised with authoritarian parenting, and this is a shift from that that just brings more connection into the beautiful boundaries that kids need.
So why connection?
Quick story that might be nice to hear, but many, many years ago, I had two little kids.
I was learning how to be a parent, and my eldest, he was a deep feeling, strongly advocating for his needs,
Wild little thing that had a lot of meltdowns, a lot of big feelings.
He was the kind of kid that would get to the park and push everybody backwards off the slide so he could go down first.
And I wasn't sure if I was raising, you know, a terrorist or a toddler.
And I also had another child.
And I remember I'd gone and done my research.
How do I raise these boys better?
I feel so lost.
And I found Maggie Dent, who is, you know, an icon.
And I watched a Maggie Dent webinar on raising boys.
And she talked about how, you know, a thumbs up or just how these moments of connection fill our kids' cups and how it could reset my whole afternoon.
And I was thinking, Maggie, have you met my son?
Yeah.
But I remember the first time I tried this, I was in my backyard.
We were living in Brisbane at the time.
