My husband's more kind.

He has to work on his firm.

But I think knowing that if we can respond to those core rules in the same way and then trust that it's okay for our kids to learn that different parents do things in different ways.

My kids always knew that, like, when I read two stories, that was it.

They weren't going to get a third one out of me.

They always knew my husband was probably going to cave and give them a third.

And I think that's okay because they learned, yeah, Dad will do that, but Mum won't, and that's all right.

Definitely.

And a follow-up to that is, and if grandparents or other people in your life are doing completely different things, unless it is breaching your ethical code, like if they are calling your kids names or smacking and you're probably like, well, we don't do that.

But unless it's breaching those ethics, it's okay for grandparents to do things a bit differently too.

I think parents with kids two up to three.

14, 13, 14.

I mean, honestly, the same advice I'm giving for the parents of the two-year-old, it's the same things I'm doing for my 16-year-old.

And the book is littered with examples.

I give examples all the way through.

So I'll move from the no at the kitchen cupboard to the two-year-old all the way up to the 16-year-old that wants to go to a party without supervision.

So there are examples that apply all the way.

I guess the reason I give that range is that the sooner parents get in there and learn how to set calm and confident boundaries, the better.

The teenage years are going to go faster.

And it's not that it's ever too late, but there are probably people who really specialise in teens that sort of might be able to help you more if you've already got a 14 or a 16-year-old, you might go to that first.
