This week we're joined by just about the perfect person to chew all this over with, the celebrated historian Simon Seabag Montifiore.

Simon has just published his new book this week.

It's called The Cauldron, The Making of the Modern Middle East.

And it's an extraordinary canter through the last 125 years of its turbulence and evolution.

So that's where you end the book.

But I'm interested in in in where you started it.

And you start with the birth of modern uh Saudi Arabia, this amazing

daring raid by Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud, uh on Riyadh in nineteen oh two to begin the restoration of the House of Saud's rule over the Arabian peninsula.

I mean it's an amazing story.

It it it reminds me of, you know, those scenes from Lawrence of Arabia and, you know, the capture of Aqaba fifteen years later by Aud Abu Tab.

Is that what we had in mind?

And there's this amazing cast of characters that that populates the narrative.

If you go back, Ibn Saud himself, David Ben Gurion, Lloyd George, and Clemenceau as as outsiders, Ataturk, Nasser, the Shah, Ayatokhomaleri.

And then nowadays, of course, you've got Bibi Nessanyahu.

Erdogan, MBS, MBZ, and you know, the guy I know very well, Field Marshal Asim Munir.

These sort of huge characters that shape this narrative.
