And this is where it gets really, really worrying.
The same governments that want North African states, or in the case of Denmark, negotiating with Rwanda to take people who cross to Europe are then saying, yeah, but we can't help Britain.
So they don't seem to believe themselves in their idea.
What I've been telling the Germans, the Danes, the Swedes and others is if you show that you can solve it with Britain and it's to your advantage, by the way, Britain being a key ally in everything from trade to defense, then you can go to African countries and say this is not about North and South, rich and poor.
It's about managing together in an interest of both sides, deadly and politically toxic irregular migration.
Yes, there is what I mean by lack of rational courage.
What we are now doing is not going to work because we reduce numbers a little bit.
It doesn't look impressive.
The myth remains.
We see a radicalization of the debate.
Centrist parties lose everywhere.
